Mom accused of trying to drown kids at homeless shelter blames ‘bad marijuana’


A woman who claimed to be on “bad marijuana” tried to drown her young children in a bathtub at an East Harlem homeless shelter because she thought they were covered in bugs, police sources told the Post.

Keyshana Mims, 35, allegedly attempted to drown her daughters — aged 15 months and 6 years old — around 9 a.m. Tuesday inside East River Family Shelter on East 104th Street, the sources said.

She then left the water running and went running through the shelter naked, yelling that the girls were dying, according to the sources.

When security responded to Mims’ unit, they found the bathtub “overflowing” with water and saw the girls fully clothed and soaking wet, sources said.

The elder daughter told the officers they had woken up in the tub, and that their mother had held them under the water, leaving them unable to breathe, the sources said.
