Cannabis came from the HIGHEST place on Earth – evolving on 15,000ft Tibetan plateau 28million years ago

THE ORIGIN of cannabis has been discovered by scientists – and it’s a lot higher than you think. Experts reckon the mind-bending plant evolved on top of a giant Tibetan mountain 28million years ago.

Humans have been getting high off cannabis, specifically its potent psychoactive ingredient THC, for at least 2,700 years.

We’ve farmed it to make textiles for even longer – over 7,000 years – but it turns out the plant goes back way further than that.

Scientists at the University of Vermont in the US looked at 155 scientific studies that analysed fossilised cannabis pollen found in Central Asia.

They used data from each study to identify where in Asia the plant grows best, and in what environment.
