Man ‘raped woman’ after spending 30 years in jail for wrongful rape conviction

A man who spent 30 years in jail on a wrongful rape conviction is now charged with raping a woman as she overdosed on a sidewalk. George Perrot, 50, was arraigned in Essex Superior Court Monday for rape, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer on January 4 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Mercury News reported. Police say they found Perrot lying with his face in between the victim’s legs. Both were unconscious and partially nude on the sidewalk.

The woman was overdosing on heroin and had to be revived with Narcan, which can help reverse opioid overdoses, according to authorities. She said the last thing she remembers was that Perrot offered her a powdered substance and encouraged her to snort it, adding that she knew she did not consent to sex. Perrot was arrested after he attacked the officers who woke him up on the sidewalk, police say. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on January 7 in Lawrence District Court, but a grand jury indicted him in March and moved the case to Essex Superior Court. Prosecutor have since suggested that Perrot may have been guilty all along
