Cannabis-infused vodka to go on sale in Scotland – and it’s legal

Cannabis-infused vodka is set to hit Scotland with the launch of a new and perfectly legal combination for drink lovers.

The first batch of Weedka will be unveiled at a trade event next weekend before it’s rolled out across the UK.

But the latest in bizarre ‘botanicals’ will not make drinkers high as it uses what are called terpenes, organic compounds from the cannabis plant which do not contain any of the famous psychoactive properties, say the makers.

That makes it legal in the EU and can be sold in any country where alcohol is legally available said the makers of the Dutch-made Weedka vodka.

Made in Holland and 40 per cent ABV, Weedka is already on sale in the Netherlands and Germany and the cannabis oil used in the distilling process comes from California where it is legally harvested.

Weedka co-founder, Maarten Witteveen, told industry journal The Morning Advertiser, the drink will be tested at The Wine and Spirits Show in London.

He said: “We came up with the crazy idea of adding cannabis leaves to vodka, a bit like the botanical distillation of gins.
