New Mexico to become 24th state to decriminalize marijuana

It’s not legalization, but it’s still a big change in marijuana policy.
New Mexico is about to become the 24th state to decriminalize marijuana . Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham this week signed legislation that will reduce penalties for marijuana from a criminal to civil violation. A person caught with less than half an ounce of pot will face a $50 fine instead of jail or prison time; penalties for drug paraphernalia will also be reduced. The law takes effect on July 1, KRQE reported .
