City bans smoking in public places, holds off on vaping

Vaping has been removed from Hamilton’s smoke free policy allowing puffs of aromatic cloud to linger, but not cigarette smoke. Policy in front of Hamilton City Council at Thursday’s meeting would have made public spaces in the CBD, including Garden Place, Civic Square and Victoria on the River, smoke and vape free. But an amendment, put forward by Cr Mark Bunting and supported seven votes to three, removed references to vaping.
