Displaced villagers from opium-growing state take fight to Mexico City


Mexicans forced from their villages by violent drug gangs are seeking assurances from the president for their security if they go home. But a safe return may still be a while away. MEXICO CITY ––  More than 300 desplazados (‘displaced people’) from the mountains of Guerrero state, Mexico, are presently camped outside the National Palace in the Zocalo, the central plaza of Mexico City, to demand action on the deadly violence in their remote towns and villages.
