NEW DELHI: India grows more opium illicitly than the legal cultivation. An International Narcotics Control Board annual report launched Tuesday has noted that the illicit opium poppy cultivation over 3,000 ha were eradicated in 2017, largest in last five years, compared to legal cultivation over 2,322 ha licensed by the government. The INCB report has warned of its consequences with significant number of young population getting addicted to drug abuse.
