Introduction Historically, Cannabis sativa has been used by many cultures for medical purposes. The plant contains more than 80 cannabinoids, of which two have been the most studied: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), responsible for the main psychoactive effects of cannabis, and cannabidiol (CBD), which may account for up to 40% of the plant. 1 , 2 CBD has been shown to be a safe compound with a favorable adverse effects profile.
